On Tuesday June 2nd, Love Island came out with their first episode with the new castmates! However if you’ve never watched Love island, they come out with episodes everyday Thursday-Tuesday except Wednesdays and Aftersun on Saturdays.
The first episode is 1 hour and 45 minutes long, and the first of the season always starts off with all of the new islanders being introduced, where they talk about themselves, what they do off the island, and what they’re looking for on the show.
The split of the cast to start this season is a balanced 5 girls and 5 boys.
Girls:
Beatriz, who is a paralympian bronze medalist and amputee.
Aniya, who works for a marketing company and her father was an NBA player.
Kenzie, a nursing school graduate.
Trinity, who worked at a hardware store.
And finally Melanie, who is the manager of a bikini store.
Boys:
Bryce, a professional model and DJ from LA.
KC, a nursing assistant who works with elderly people.
Sean, who is a police officer and also a father to a young son.
Sincere, a former division 1 track athlete and now coach.
Zach, from the UK who’s older brother Charlie was in the last season of Love Island.
After the islanders first meet and are introduced to each other by the show’s host, Ariana Maddox, they spend some time together and are put into the show’s first challenge, where they will be coupled up with the person they are most interested in.
The first challenge of the season starts with the boys and girls behind a series of large doors, each representing a different answer to the question asked so they can get to know each other. These include questions like if they’re a dog, cat, or plant person, as well as relationship based questions such as is it ever okay to look through your partner’s phones. If islanders select the same door, they must kiss the other contestants. At the end of the challenge, the doors are set up so that behind each one there is one of the boys. The girls must go up to the door and choose who they would like to be coupled up with. If there are multiple behind one door, the boy must choose who he feels he has the strongest connection with.
The first couple to pair up are Bryce and Trinity, followed by Sean and Beatriz, who had the most matching answers out of everybody. After those two, KC opens his door to find no girl is standing behind it, and he is sent to go sit at the fire pit and wait to be coupled up. Sincere opens his door and both Melanie and Aniya are waiting behind it. After a little thinking, he chooses to be coupled up with Melanie and Aniya is sent to be coupled up with KC at the fire pit. Finally, Zach is coupled up with Kenzie.
Now that they are in their couples, they are able to spend some time getting to know each other, explore the villa, and spend the night together. In the morning, the boys wake up early to cook their couples breakfast and deliver it while they are getting ready. The rest of the day goes pretty normally, with the islanders talking to each other about how they feel with their partner, and whether or not they want to stay coupled up with them or explore the other people. On the second day, there is a game where they must decide if they want to stay with them or not, and on both sides of a wall contestants can stand on a red or green square to confirm if they want to leave them or stay.
Beatriz, to everybody’s surprise, decides to not stay with Sean, while he does decide to stay with her. Zach decides to not stay with Kenzie, while she steps on the green to try and stay with him. Bryce and Trinity remain together, both stepping on the green. Aniya and KC also decide to stay together after making a connection despite not being originally paired up. Melanie and Sincere do the same. The twist, that leads to the end of the episode, is the bombshells, Gabriel and Kayda, taking the contestants on red squares who decided to explore away from the villa to spend the night with each other.
That wraps up the first episode recap of Love Island, and the new episodes will be coming out almost daily.
