A lot of planning goes into the annual Homecoming Dance.
The dance has been held for a long time at Oliver Ames. The Student Council and its co-advisors, Mrs. Kenney, and Ms. Murphy, planned this event each year.
“This year our community is a little smaller than it’s ever been before. Typically 75% of the students come to the dance. So this year we are anticipating about 700 tickets to be sold.” said Mrs. Kenney.
Since the Homecoming dance is taking place at the practice gym, there needs to be decorations and lights to fill up the room. The theme for this year’s dance is Under the Lanterns.
“The Student Council comes down with us to set up the gym, so it tends to be at least 40 kids and we only have an hour and a half. We’re hoping as many kids come this year!” said Mrs. Kenney.
To finalize the dance you need music to fit it all together. Every year the Student Council and Mrs. Kenney find DJ’s.
“There are certain companies that we have contracts with, so the DJ we’ve used for a handful of years. He comes down here from Boston and he’s the best one in our opinion. Members of the Senior class in particular help build the playlist and send it along to him.” said Mrs. Kenney.
This year’s dance is in the practice gym Friday (11.21) from 7:00 – 9:30 PM. If you haven’t gotten your tickets, the last day to buy them is November 19th in Room 201 by the end of the day.
