Tuesday night’s Dancing With the Stars semi-finals celebrated the singer Prince by dancing to his iconic songs while upping the competition as couples fight for their spots in next week’s season finale.
Elaine Hendrix & Alan Bersten
Elaine and Alan performed two dances: a Foxtrot to I Wanna Be Your Lover and a Paso Doble to When Doves Cry both by Prince. Her Foxtrot was performed beautifully, scoring a 27/30. However, it was missing the “wow” factor. I agreed with all the judges’ comments wanting to see more confidence and passion through her dances. Her second dance to a Paso Doble was so strong and she definitely listened to the judges critiques. Her second dance scored a perfect 30/30 score, her first ever one which was so deserved.
Alix Earle & Val Chmerkovskiy
Alix and Val’s two dances were an Argentine Tango to Little Red Corvette and Viennese Waltz to Purple Rain. Her first dance Alix seemed a little on edge but it was still executed wonderfully scoring a 28/30. Her second dance scored her a perfect score and judges said “it would go down in history.” She seemed a lot more confident and precise in this dance compared to the first one. It was definitely one of the best dances and I am so happy that she is moving onto the finals next week!
Whitney Leavitt & Mark Ballas
Whitney and Mark delivered beautifully dancing a Cha Cha to 1999 by Prince and a Viennese Waltz to Slow Love also by Prince. Their first dance presently surprised me, it was very well executed, scoring a 29/30. Their second dance was also good but I didn’t love it. Something just didn’t feel right. It ended up scoring another 29/30 but I wouldn’t say it necessarily deserved that score.
Dylan Efron & Daniella Karagach
Dylan and Daniella performed a Tango to I Would Die 4 U and a Cha Cha to Kiss by Prince. His Tango was really good and he did what he was supposed to. He has improved a lot but he still isn’t sticking out to me. For his Tango he scored a 27/30. His Cha Cha was also good but not great. He scored a 28/30, slightly improving from his first dance. I personally think that Daniella is such a strong dancer that it is hard for Dylan to keep up with her.
Jordan Chiles & Ezra Sosa
Jordan and Ezra performed a Jive to Raspberry Beret as well as an Argentine Tango to U Got the Look by Prince. Jordan has such a great work ethic and has improved so much as a dancer throughout the past 3 months. Her Jive was very good, however she did get a little lost in the end, scoring a 27/30. Her second dance of the night was by far one of my favorite dances she has ever performed. It was so difficult yet precise, scoring a perfect score. I am very proud of both Jordan and Ezra and I’m so excited to see them in the finale next week.
Robert Irwin & Witney Carson
Robert has always been one of my favorites but this week he completely won me over. He performed a Jive to Baby I’m a Star and a Viennese Waltz to WOW by Prince. His Jive was so good he genuinely looked like one of the pros in my eyes. It was definitely my favorite dance of the night and it even earned a perfect score. His second dance was also amazing, scoring a 29/30. Robert and Alix are my favorites of this season and no matter who wins, I am so happy they will be in the finals.
Eliminations
Tonight’s elimination wasn’t all surprising, Whitney Leavitt and Mark Ballas were sent home tonight. Whitney’s reality show Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives 3rd season just came out this week. There is a scene that has gone viral of her stating that she only rejoined the show after quitting to be on Dancing With The Stars. Many fans have already had mixed views about her because she is portrayed as the “villian” on her reality show already. I think that this scene surfacing on the internet this week is one of the reasons she did not have enough votes to stay until the finale. I personally think it should’ve been Dylan getting eliminated because although I love him, Whitney is clearly the better dancer and has been on top every single week.
