Every Wednesday after school, students gather in room 122 to meet for the computer science club.
Mr Kranich is a math and computer science teacher at Oliver Ames, and runs the computer science club.
“My role is more of a facilitator. The computer science club is more of a student led club.”
He says it’s a fun club to join and it offers the opportunity for students interested in coding and computer science to bring their ideas together.
“It’s kind of a time to come together and collaborate.”
Students can create their own projects for fun on whatever they’d like. Owen Stares, ‘26, has made multiple projects this year.
“In the computer science club I learn new things about computer science and do projects. I do projects related to holidays like thanksgiving and christmas. We do stuff for fun. We make games, countdowns to holidays.”
Bridget Carr, ‘27, a member of the club and a marketing captain, says it’s a fun club and everyone should join.
“I feel like it’s just a club for pretty much anybody, no matter your experience, who just come and hang out and learn more about computer science.”
If you are interested in joining the computer science club but feel like you don’t know a lot about coding and computer science, don’t worry.
“You need zero computer science experience” says Genesis DeAguiar, ‘27, who is a marketing captain for the computer science club.
“I personally, and most people in this room, have not taken any years of computer science. A lot of people come in knowing nothing, and you learn something by the end of the year.”
If you are interested in joining a club that has a great community feeling and is also laid back and relaxed while also making fun and creative projects, the computer science club might be for you.
“It’s more of a community. If you join computer science you’ll kind of learn something computer science related or not. We make some cool games and we have fun hanging out.”
