The Multicultural Club at Oliver Ames is an organization dedicated to promoting diversity and uniting students over culture and identity. They’re hosting a party on Wednesday, (12.10) and all are welcome!
Planning for a party can have a lot of work involved! Mrs. Sankaran, the advisor for the Multicultural Club, takes pride in showcasing our students at OA’s different cultures and ethnicities through crafts and food.
“Students have been planning the OA Annual Holiday Party for a month. The club focuses on highlighting various cultures, food, and crafts. Everyone gets to share a food item from their culture and share why they chose to bring that dish. We have also planned a few stations for henna, origami, and making snowflakes.”
There are so many aspects of the Multicultural club that students love! Jason Chan, a member of the club, says that his favorite aspect of the Multicultural club is sharing cultures with others through food and diversity.
“My favorite aspect of being part of the Multicultural club is the diversity and inclusivity of everyone involved. Everyone learns and appreciates each other’s cultures which is very special and important. I also love how we bring in food from a new culture every meeting because food is a key part of every culture and really brings people together. “
The Multicultural Club’s main objective is to promote diversity among our students and give everyone a voice. Mrs. Sankaran says that the Multicultural club encourages acceptance of diversity and culture.
“The objective of the Multicultural Club is to promote diverse cultures and ethnicities and encourage acceptance in our community.”
The Multicultural club has many proud achievements and ways of integrating and exploring different cultures. Mrs. Sankaran says she is most proud of the club’s ability to provide a safe environment for students to share their culture.
“Each week, the students take turns in presenting their cultures and share a dish or two. They also teach a craft or any art form to the rest.”
