Starting in the 2026-2027 school year seniors may have the opportunity to purchase and decorate their own parking spot in the senior lot.
The idea, proposed by students, represented by the Student Voice Union, is pending approval from the school committee, but those involved are optimistic of this exciting change to the school.
If all goes well, the money from the parking spots will go towards the senior class, and Mrs. Cavanaugh is estimating the spots will probably be close to around $100 per spot. While this may sound pricey, if the spot is used daily that’s only around 55 cents per day!
“Once we have everything finalized we will be very excited to release all the details, but I can say that we are hoping to see the money raised go towards the senior class.” said Ms. Brown, a guidance counselor. “Our goal for spot decorating is to make it fun, accessible, and inclusive.”
The intention is to host a day (or couple days) in August where the class of 2027 can come together to paint their spots and celebrate the start of their senior year. However, there will be other options for students who are not buying a spot.
“We want everyone to feel as though they can participate regardless of whether or not they get a spot,” said Mrs. Brown. “So, we hope to have some ‘class spots’ that people can work on painting, such as the class year, quote, etc.”
Painting parking spots for senior year has been trending on social media for years as a great way to bring the class together and make the school their own. Schools all across the world partake in this tradition yearly, creating many viral videos and sparking creativity.
“We are very excited about the Senior Spots!” says 2027 class Vice President Kayla Isleib, “We believe this will be very beneficial as it will bring so much creativity, camaraderie, culture, and money to the senior class!”
