Spring sports are right around the corner and with that comes the softball season. Softball is coming off of a 7-13 season and made it to the second round of the playoffs. They will look to build off that while also filling spots from graduating seniors.
Like most teams who are preparing for an upcoming season, Coach Allison and the team are setting some goals for themselves.
“Every year, our goal is to be better than we were the day before. More measurable goals include being competitive and always looking to win our League (Hockomock Davenport Division),” Coach Allison said. “We also always look to make the tournament every year. In order to do these things, we have to make sure that we are staying focused on measurable daily objectives, have a short memory on bad games/plays/at bats and treat every day as a new opportunity to improve our game, teamwork and outlook on the season. Adapt daily to what we are able to accomplish.”
Teammates working well together can be pivotal to a team’s level of success. Captain Jackie Solimine says hard work and selflessness is what this year’s team is about.
“The team’s mindset going into the season is to come to practice everyday ready to practice no matter what. We also want to put the team first instead of ourselves.”
Teams lose players after every season and that’s what makes every season a challenge. Seniors graduating can be an opportunity for new players to step up.
“I’m feeling great about the season! We have some spots to fill from graduating seniors, but a good core of our team is returning,” says Coach Allison. “We also have a good chunk of upperclassmen who are going to be looking for opportunities in the field. Additionally, there are some incoming freshmen that I am interested to see in tryouts.”
Lindsey Solomon explains what it means to be a captain for this season’s team.
“I really enjoy being a captain for this team because I feel like I get to lead the next group of OA softball players considering the team is predominantly juniors, sophomores, and freshmen. I get to show all of them what the groups that came before me taught me and carry on the legacy of those before me.”
