OA baseball is coming off a 7-15 season and made the playoffs. As tryouts commence, they now get ready for another season.
Coach Abarr explains what is most important for the team going into the season.
“Our goal is to focus consistently on the handful of things we can control on a day-to-day basis. Weather, field conditions, etc. are out of our control. Our effort and attitudes are under our control and therefore are our focus. If we can control those things we will have a successful practice, game, and season.”
The Hockomock league is always very competitive with many good teams each year. Each game can be a battle.
“We should be very competitive this season,” Coach Abarr says. “The league is stacked again so our approach is to stay competitive in EVERY game. Run differential and strength of schedule are huge factors for the tournament and should help us again. Last season we seriously limited runs surrendered on average, but we didn’t score. If we can score runs we should be much better positioned in the tournament.”
Senior Tommy Regan was voted by his teammates to be one of the captains for this year’s team. Being chosen to be one of the leaders of a team is a big achievement.
“I am happy that I was chosen to lead this team by my peers because they feel that I have the qualities that make me the right fit for the position.”
Each year, teams circle matchups that have potential to be big games. Coach Abarr highlights one that sticks out.
“We will play BR for a non league game for the first time and that should be an excellent matchup for us. Honestly, any Hock league game is going to be a serious contest and worth seeing.”
