The AP Testing Season is arriving at Oliver Ames and students are buzzing in preparation. With all of the things going on at the end of the school year, sometimes it gets very busy and hard to keep track of everything you need to know.
Ms. Mancuso is a guidance counselor here at OA and she is also the AP testing coordinator. She puts many hours of work to coordinate the AP testing process for all the students at Oliver Ames.
“We have 309 students taking at least one AP class this year, along with 711 tests that are being administered across 19 subjects,” said Ms. Mancuso.
The number of students that are taking the test fluctuates with the graduating class that year, but the ratio stays around the same every year.
“For example, the Class of 2025 was a larger class than the Class of 2026 so that has an impact on how many students are taking AP classes,” Ms. Mancuso said. It also varies in terms of how many students take one AP class, versus students that take multiple AP classes each year. Last year we had 308 students take 747 exams.”
Students that are taking AP tests will be following a separate schedule from the general student body.
“For students taking AP exams, they are expected to attend school the full day of their exams. They will have 4th block, lunch block off, to eat and regroup regardless of whether they are taking a morning or afternoon exam,” said Ms. Mancuso.
“They will be given extra time to make up missed work for the classes they missed while taking their exams. Afternoon exams tend to run late and finish around 3 or 3:30pm so students should plan accordingly if they have to arrange for transportation or if they have work commitments. The Athletic department is made aware of the schedule.”
On the day of the test, students should arrive 10 minutes early with a non mechanical pencil and a fully charged Chromebook. Calculators can be brought to use on the testing day, but Bluebook has a built in calculator for students to use. The testing rooms have changed from past years.
“Most AP exams will take place in C119 and C127 (Chorus and Band rooms) and the Lecture Hall,” Ms. Mancuso said. “There are a few other locations on the 1st floor that will also accommodate some tests. Desks are being added to the band and chorus rooms for testing. For any student taking an AP exam, they will receive an email the day before their exam with room location and other details.”
Students that are located in these classrooms will be relocated for the AP testing period and staff will be provided the relocated rooms to share with their classes. To take the AP test, students are required to pay a fee. Students can pay it through this link: Town of Easton website.
“College Board lists the price for all AP exams at $99. For students that might need financial assistance, the price has been brought down to $53,” said Ms. Mancuso. “The deadline for payment is Friday, May 15th. If students do not pay they are put on the obligation list, which for seniors, could put graduation in jeopardy. For juniors, it means they would not be eligible for sports or other school activities until payment has been made.”
Good luck to all students taking AP tests this year!
