Not everyone can juggle a sport, a business, and all the responsibilities senior year brings during the final months of high school, but Senior Sean Donovan has found a way to balance it all. Between Baseball, school, his job at Crescent Ridge and running his own landscaping business, Donovan has turned a simple hobby into something much bigger.
“Oh, um, started off, just doing my own grass, ‘cause my dad didn’t want to do it,” Donovan said. “And then I started doing my neighbors, until I got my license, and then I bought a trailer, and started doing all over Easton, and some people in Stoughton.”
With Donovan building a client base across multiple towns while still managing the demands of high school life, his business quickly grew! Although balancing everything can be difficult, Donovan said his passion for landscaping makes the hard work worth it.
That passion is also shaping his future plans. Next year, Donovan will attend University of Massachusetts Amherst to study landscape architecture, a field he became interested in through his landscaping experience.
“Landscape architecture is, um, like, you take roughed up landscapes, areas, and you design, like, better places, how to work with it, like, maybe better drainage,” Donovan said. “You can renovate different areas… and identifying different shrubs. So you learn more about not just the actual landscape, but more about the plants and stuff, too.”
Through both his business and his future studies, Donovan hopes to continue expanding his knowledge of landscaping and design. While he is excited for college, he also plans to keep his business going in some way.
“Yes, I will be going back to the biz, and then… maybe I’ll get a job working for a company in landscape architecture, but play it by ear,” Donovan said.
Looking back on how far his business has come, Donovan encourages others who are interested in starting something of their own to take the chance.
“Uh, do it. Go full force into it. It’s a lot of fun.”
