With the summer season approaching, many Oliver Ames students are desperate to break out their warm-weathered clothing. Along with shorts, T-shirts, and skirts comes flip flops: the perfect accessory for the beach and warm weather. But should flip flops be normalized in school?
Many are concerned with finding shoes to wear that won’t overheat their feet. This is why flip flops are a great new addition to your wardrobe! Oliver Ames senior, Veronica Shenoy, says that she values flip flops’s accessibility.
“Yes, flip flops are the summer ugg and they’re easy to slip on,” said Shenoy.
Others, however, strongly disagree with wearing flip flops to school. They are seen as an accessory for the beach or for casual errands but not for school or an academic environment. Oliver Ames seniors, Aydin Kabir and Ava D’arcy, say that they wouldn’t want other people looking at their feet and disagree with wearing flip flops to school.
“I would never wear sandals to school. I don’t like seeing other people’s toes so I don’t want them to see mine,” said Aydin Kabir.
“No way, I don’t want people to see my feet,” said Ava D’arcy.
