The Oliver Ames Volleyball team sets their foot down and continues to stay undefeated till their post-season. The Tigers will have their annual Dig Pink game against Canton, this Friday (10/17) at 6:00 in the Nixon Gym.

The volleyball team had their ups and downs throughout the past years, but this year has been a huge change for them. Going against teams and winning back to back, the team is 16-0. Lindsey Solomon is a senior at Oliver Ames who takes the leadership role as captain this year. Lindsey has played with this team and seen the ups and downs throughout the season. 

“If you told me four years ago that I would be here right now, I would have laughed in your face. As a team being undefeated it’s surreal. Like.. I had no idea and didn’t even think I was going to make varsity last year. To be here right now is literally a fever dream, I couldn’t have ever imagined this ever”.

This team has progressed and improved throughout the years. They’ve shown lots of improvement and effort to earn their position as #1 in the Hockomock league and D2. It’s not granted to always be the best, but it’s granted to always try and earn that spot. Claire Kenny, a junior middle blocker, is one of the big additions to the team and is always positive off and on the court. 

“I think the only thing that has changed from last year is our mentality as a team. We want our revenge season and want to be able to prove we can make it again to states so we can prove ourselves.” 

On and off the court as a team they prioritize staying humble. Whoever they were going against during the week, it doesn’t matter. They want to stay humble and set the same tone. As an undefeated team, the attitude matters as a team. The Head Coach, Chelsea Cunningham, is a firm believer in this. She has been coaching since 2014 and continues to help improve and grow with this team. 

“It’s important by taking it one point at a time, taking a match at a time. I tell the kids all the time when we’re getting amped up, they’ll tell you. I tell them to smell the flowers and blow the bubbles, because you just have to take a deep breath and understand that it’s one point. It cannot determine the entire match if you reset every single time, another core value is our motto ‘Together we can Together we will’. They cannot win a game if they don’t do it together. So if they know that we’re going to do this together and we’re going to fight together, then we’ll win together”.
