Mr. Sousa is the Cross Country Coach and he has been a successful and hardworking coach and he is always coming to practice and games with a positive attitude and overall he is a great mind to have on and off the field.
Mr Sousa thinks it has been a pretty successful season for them so far and they just want to prepare for their races coming up. He thinks they have done a great job at conditioning and training up to this point in the season. He and the team are very pleased with the season. They both won the Hockomock League this season. Ther boy’s team also were crowned the D2 state champions.
For the next few years Sousa feels very confident because he has a lot of young players that could definitely be up and coming and he knows OA has always had a lot of success in Cross Country and that comes from a process oriented approach.
“Overall I think it has been a pretty successful season. We tried to focus on the process of cross country and preparing for races and we are pretty happy with how the summer went and all of our workouts. We have had a lot of success on the race course and overall just playing really hard. This team is always built around sacrifice, hard work, commitment and perseverance throughout the whole season.”
The girls and boys teams both won the Davenport division in the regular season. Both teams have been spectacular and they do not look to stop being this good.
The standout player for the boys is Landon Sarney and he has broken a different record every time he runs in a different meeting. There are a bunch of other athletes like Lawrence Dear, Devin Mcstowe, Doug Smith, Jake Havey and so many other athletes. They could have different top runners every week and they have so many different lineups.
For the girls standout player it is Katie Beaulieu, Devin Thomas, Ashley Powers, Erin Riley, and a couple others.
The hardest game the girls have played was against Canton and that was one of their most recent games that they played. The boys it was their first meet against Mansfield and the Hockomock league is one of the most competitive leagues that they could be in.
The biggest obstacle they are facing right now is the regular season has dual meets which is where two teams meet and then during Championship season there is the invitational format which has 25 teams meet up and they all race against each other. They choose one player from each team to run for them to represent their school.
Perseverance is a big lesson he is trying to instill in his players because that is an important thing during this part of the season when playoffs are approaching soon.
Overall he has high expectations going into the next couple seasons and he is always wanting what is best for his team. He is a hardworking coach and teacher here at the Oliver Ames school.
