Looking for a place to discuss or learn about the Jewish culture? Come check out the Jewish Cultural Club in Room 203, advised by Mr. Goldberg and Mr. Kitrell on the first and third Tuesdays of every month. A multitude of activities encompasses showing up to a meeting.
The club is backed by an incredible cause. It wasn’t something that the school said needed to happen just to have it available, but it was created based on the ideas of the student body. The need and want for a place to express thoughts based on world events allowed the club to become a real thing.
“Yeah so I mean, I was approached about it, after October 7th, where basically like within a couple of days, a couple of people came up to me and said ‘Hey I really want to do this club.’ I think it’s important, especially now with anti-semitism on the rise and everything with October 7th to have a place where Jewish students and those who are interested in Jewish culture can meet safely and talk through things and, you know, embrace their culture. So students asked me to do it. I didn’t directly create it. A couple of kids asked me to start it with them” explained club advisor Mr. Goldberg.
Having this club at our school has proved to be very special to the people that have joined and the people that participate in it. Knowing that there is a place in our school for speaking minds has proved beneficial for people.
“I think it’s important. It’s cool. Not every school has this. There are schools that are not as supportive of their Jewish community as they should be. And I think it’s important that there’s a space here for kids to have that” expressed Mr. Goldberg.
The most important part of the club is what it can offer to all people that are interested. A wide range of activities and a host of enjoyable opportunities come to those who decide joining is something that they would like to do.
“So I would characterize the mission as a place for individuals who are Jewish and those who are not, because anybody can come, to have a place where they can have their identity reflected. That would become the main mission of it, to have a place where we can talk about the culture and share food related to it and games and just make sure there’s a space that people who are Jewish and people who aren’t that just want to learn about the culture, have a place to go” compelled Mr. Goldberg.
