Christmas is a time of joy and giving. Many students at Oliver Ames this year received thoughtful gifts that made their Christmas day bright! Whether it was home-made or bought from the store, all gifts were appreciated by the student body.
Many people love a good practical gift. While funny and amusing gifts are a good laugh on the holidays, practical gifts can be used year round while still loved and appreciated! They show a care for the recipient and an acknowledgement of their routines. Addy Carney, a junior at Oliver Ames, says that her favorite Christmas gift was a mirror for everyday use and future use in the future.

“I got a full body mirror for Christmas and it’s definitely my favorite Christmas gift. It’s very practical and I’ll be able to use it and bring it to college” Carney said.
No matter the price, all gifts are appreciated when it comes to the care that is associated with it. The smallest gifts can have the biggest impact! When in a pinch for a gift, think about something small that your recipient adores and it will pay off. Genny DeAguiar, a junior at Oliver Ames, says her favorite gift was candy from her little brother.

“My favorite gift was sourpatch kids. My brother rode all the way to the store on his bike to surprise me with them, which I thought was really sweet” DeAguiar said.
Many people enjoy gifts that display their style or personality. Receiving a gift related to your style shows that the person giving you the gift knows you and your preferences when it comes to expressing yourself. Clothing is worn everyday and a perfect gift to receive especially in the winter season when transitioning to warmer clothing can be worrisome. Shealah Duffy, a junior at Oliver Ames, says that her favorite Christmas gift this year was clothing.

“My favorite gift was clothing because they’re comfortable and functional,” Duffy said.
While material gifts are great and functional, experiences can be the best type of gift. When you are trying to buy a gift for someone who simply “has everything”, an experience is the perfect fix to the problem. Going to the movies or a day in the city with your friends is a great gift to receive especially around the holidays. This type of gift can also show attention to their interests, like buying your recipient tickets to a sports game or a new movie they’ve been waiting to see. Colleen O’Connell, a junior at Oliver Ames, says that her favorite Christmas gift of the season was tickets to a Broadway show.

“My favorite Christmas gift this year was tickets to see “Le Miz” on Broadway because I love theater and it would be such an amazing experience to see it live” O’Connell said.
Whatever the gift, the Christmas season is the perfect time to spread love and appreciation. The students of Oliver Ames were grateful for their thoughtful gifts this Christmas season!
