Oliver Ames is well-known for many of its great amenities such as the gym, auditorium, and classrooms. But OA’s library stands out the most! Many things are always happening at once in the comforting and peaceful silence of the library. While often quiet, the library always seems lively and full of opportunities.
It’s two o’clock in the afternoon and the library is filled with all sorts of students. Some studying, some quietly chatting, some playing games or reading. Five students sat around a table and played cards, each devoting their attention directly to which hand would be revealed next. While not always academic, all activities in the library show the students dedication and attentiveness.
Artwork lines the walls of the library, displaying years of talented artists that originated in Oliver Ames. Colors and creativity are barely contained in each frame, bringing joy to anyone who gazes upon them. A framed painting of an autumn tree lingers over a student admiring its fierce colors.
Hundreds of books are set up on the shelves for students to choose from. Each novel showcasing a new story to transport yourself to. Fiction, romance, comedies are all available upon walking through the doors to the library. Oliver Ames library puts an emphasis on making sure all students are heard and their desired stories are available for the public to enjoy.
A student logs into a computer, placed for accessibility by the students, while another films their friend for a project. With the library being a hotspot for students to work together, many small groups of students film, read, and work on schoolwork. The natural light showing through the windows creates a bright and studious atmosphere to work in.
By now, the library is full of anticipation for the bell to ring. Students finish up the last of their work, expertly copying down equations. The sound of frantic typing and meek chatting fills the room as students focus deeply on their task. One student breathes a sigh of relief after closing their laptop. The library is an atmosphere of focus and undivided attention that never fails to put students on track.
