Oliver Ames is known for their sports but none of that would be possible without the students who sign up for sports.
While numbers have stayed mostly consistent the last few years for all sports at OA, each season has seen some change. Oliver Ames athletic director Ms. Macdonald says there is some change in number for the fall.
“I would say the numbers for the fall, our numbers were down a little bit compared to where we usually are. I’d say about 30 kids or so roughly. It’s not too bad but definitely on the downward trend there.”
Winter sports have not seen many changes in numbers this year compared to last season.
“There’s 433 for this year and last year there’s 359. So just the kids that are registered, just off the bat, would be 16 less. So we are pretty much around the same.”
A common trend that OA has seen in recent years is the number of freshmen signing up for winter sports. The only freshman team in the winter is boys basketball.
“I think for winter sports this year is just boys basketball. That’s it. They have their own separate team” said Ms. Macdonald. “We haven’t had a girls basketball team since I’ve been here, so the last 3 years.”
