The boys and girls basketball teams both barely survived their first-round playoff games Friday, advancing to round two games this week.
The Oliver Ames Girls Basketball team hosted the Bedford Buccaneers in a first round game of the playoffs. The girls took home the win in a close contest that ended with the Tigers pulling away with a 59 – 50 win.
The all around team play and the scoring efforts of Avery Gamble (34), Maeve Horsman (19), Olivia Strom (2), and Ella O’Keefe (4) led the team to the home-court victory. The girls play again on March 2nd where they will host the North Attleboro Rocketeers in the second round of the playoffs.
Boys basketball defeated Canton 45-42 after an intense ending in the first round of the playoffs. After a dominant first quarter that ended 14-4 in OA’s favor, Canton started to play better and the game was close the rest of the way, leading 23-22 at half time. Canton took the lead in the third quarter and had control for most of the 4th quarter. OA was able to prevail thanks to the help of some clutch free throws by Jacob Lok in the final seconds of the game.
Justin Grimaldi’s 14 point performance helped OA win this game. He also collected 6 rebounds. Oliver Ames boys basketball will host Archbishop Williams Tuesday at 6 for the second round of the playoffs.
