Fred Islieb is the Head Coach for the Varsity Girls Lacrosse team who has a lot of goals for his team this upcoming season. There are a lot of players returning and lots of open spaces from the players that graduated last season.
Coach Islieb has a lot of hope for the upcoming season because a lot of the girls have participated in an open session and there are lots of upperclassmen that have a lot of experience. The seniors can help the younger players into getting better each and every day at practice. The Tigers also have two juniors who are the leading scorers and they are Kit Perron and Kayla Islieb.
Coach Islieb has a lot of goals for the team which is to make the state tournament at the end of the year. They need to win 32 percent or more of games or be 32nd in the power rankings. This is a big goal for the team because not many teams can make this and it is a big honor to be a part of it.
“Some personal goals for the team is to have fun and work hard and get better and compete.”
There are some key players on the team that are seniors like Gabriella Nastasia, Makenna Hutton, Anna Luke, Isabella Lane, Molly Nager and Olivia Strom. All of them have their own positive assets about their game.
“We should be on the lookout for Gabriella Nastasia and on defense Isabella Lane and Makenna Hutton are also good players. Anna Luke is going to be really impactful on the defensive side of the ball.” said Coach Isleib
This team has a lot different players because they lost a lot of seniors who graduated last season and they have lots of new players stepping up who have never been on varsity before. A lot of the young players are getting really good reps and they will get better and learn much more from the more experienced players.
“This team is looking different because they lost a lot of seniors and it’s not a rebuild year but a reload year. A lot of sophomores are stepping up and some new girls that were on JV last year are going to need to play big minutes for us this season.”
There are always a lot of good matchups for the Tigers like Whitman Hanson, Canton, Franklin and KP. These are all good games to see where the Tigers matchup against the best other teams in their division.
“We play Whitman Hanson and we haven’t won the past few years and Canton because they are always good games. The powerhouses in the league are KP and Franklin.”
