Brendan Teehan, a senior, does something that very few are able to say they’ve done. Teehan is a captain of all three sports he plays at OA including golf, hockey and tennis.
It is a big accomplishment to be voted as captain for one team. Teehan says he is proud to be a captain for three teams.
“I definitely take pride in it because it’s voted on by the players, not the coaches,” Teehan said. “I like that the players see I can take accountability and it means a lot that they vote me into it.”
It can be difficult to find a balance between playing three sports throughout the school year with all the time and effort that goes into each activity.
“It definitely can be challenging,” Teehan said. “especially now that I am a captain for all three sports. Captain’s practices will be harder to run because I’ll be in season for another sport.”
Teehan says it took time to figure out how to manage the work between sports and school, but it has all paid off after he committed to play golf at Western Connecticut State University.
“I’m most looking forward to seeing how different it is compared to high school,” Teehan said of how different the competition will be. “Living out there and playing golf anytime I want throughout the fall and spring will be fun.”
It can be a tricky process and hard to navigate between all the work that goes into the busy schedule Teehan has throughout the year, a process that he says wouldn’t be possible without the help of others.
“My dad, 100%,” Teehan said of who has helped him the most. “For hockey I would say the coaches and my dad.” Brendan also credits his mom for getting him into tennis.
Teehan mentions that he is focusing on one year at a time and waiting to see what the future holds, but says the reward of being able to play golf at the collegiate level is great.
“It definitely feels good knowing that it all paid off. Definitely means the world to me knowing that it makes my dad happy since he’s the one who got me into the sport.”
