Avery Gamble was named the HockomockSports.com Girls Basketball Player of the Year this week.
Gamble had a fantastic 4 years playing for OA. She reached the 1,000 point milestone in her Junior year and surpassed 1,500 points at OA. Gamble says winning the award is more than just the statistics she had.
“It means a lot to me because I really tried to pride myself in perfecting all aspects of my game, but also by being a good teammate/opponent. I truly believe a lot comes from how you present yourself, so I tried to be a respectful player no matter what. I will cherish this award forever and I am so happy I received it.”
Coach Costello recognizes the amount of work that it takes to reach the level that Avery has, making the award so special.
“It means a lot because I remember when I first took the job, before her sophomore year, I told a college coach that Avery would be the best player in the Hock by her senior year and I’m thrilled I was right! I’m just really proud of how she committed to that vision every single day. She’s a testament to what hard work and belief in yourself can turn into.”
Avery credits the people closest to her who have helped her get to the point where she is now.
“It is extremely special to me to win this award. It just shows that a lot of hard work has paid off and I am so grateful for the opportunity. I could not have done it without the support of my teammates, friends, coaches, and family.”
