OA Activity Fair provides students with a display of the activities and clubs at Oliver Ames with over 25 different clubs presenting.
President of the Debate Club, Aydin Kabir, while busily helping run the club’s table, argues why the Activity Fair has a huge impact on inclusivity among students, participation, and unification.
“The purpose of the fair is to promote inclusivity among the students of Oliver Ames. All people should be welcome to join any club they want. The fair allows students to get a sample of what each club is like, raising more awareness for clubs and getting more students of all grades and ages involved,” Kabir said.
Assistant principal, Mrs. Neely, discusses what inspired the creation of the fair and the principles of creating community for students to find new interests.
“The Clubs & Activities Fair was created to introduce students, especially our newest Tigers, to the variety of
extracurricular opportunities available at OA. We know that student engagement outside of the classroom is key to building a sense of belonging and connection to the school, so our school community is passionate about providing a vibrant, welcoming space for all students to explore their interests and passions,” Neely said.
Mrs. Neely reflects on the need for all of our clubs at OA and how students can benefit from being involved. She expresses her love of learning new skills through clubs offered here at OA.
“All of our clubs/activities reflect the heart of our school and empower students to make a difference and that is the coolest thing to be able to experience. I am always especially drawn to clubs that allow you to learn new skills, so Tiger Productions, Fishing & Outdoors Club, and the Architectural/Engineering Society are right up my alley,” Neely said.
Mrs. Neely explains the importance of organization when planning such an inspirational event. To convey this process she explains what went into preparing for the fair.
“The fair required coordination among student leaders, advisors, janitorial staff, secretarial staff, and your building administrators. We made sure every active club had a table, encouraged students to prepare engaging displays, and promoted the event through advisory, announcements, and posters. It is a team effort,” Neely said.
Oliver Ames student, Juniper Misener, argues for why the fair is beneficial to students and the positive impact it has on club participation.
“The Activity Fair definitely was better for advertising the clubs, we tend to look over the posters in the halls. So, the fair provided a great visual and opportunity to learn new information about the clubs in Oliver Ames,” Misener
said.
