The magical season for the Patriots ended in heartbreak after a 29-13 loss in Super Bowl 60.
What was an elite offense all year long, crumbled and did not show up in this game. They could not find their rhythm for the majority of the game. New England was forced to punt on their first eight drives. The Patriots first score came with 12:27 left in the 4th quarter. Whatever life New England had left in a 19-7 ballgame with 8 minutes to go was gone after Drake Maye threw an interception.
Drake Maye wasn’t getting much help up front. He was sacked 6 times, which is tied for the second most sacks in a Super Bowl. Left tackle Will Campbell gave up a sack and a record 14 pressures which is the most for a left tackle in a playoff game since 2018.
Between missed throws, poor plays on the offensive line, and some questionable play calling by offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, New England never looked ready or prepared. They were outplayed and out coached in the biggest game of the year.
It was an incredible season for the Patriots. Who would have thought after back-to-back 4-13 seasons that New England would find themselves in Super Bowl 60? Patriots fans will forever remember how magical of a ride this season was. From Mike Vrabel winning coach of the year and Drake Maye’s incredible second season, coming just one vote shy in the MVP voting, this is a season Patriots fans will talk about for years to come.
Culture and team chemistry is what this team was built off of and it’s a huge reason why the Patriots found themselves in this game. Any Patriots fan knows it was a miracle New England was playing in this game.
There is a lot to look forward to for the Pats. Drake Maye compiled one of the most impressive seasons of a second-year quarterback in NFL history. Mike Vrabel built a culture that everyone bought into and will most likely build an even greater one next season.
