This Saturday, the Oliver Ames volleyball team went to the division II state championship in which they played Wayland, walking away with a win for the first time in school history, as well as finishing their season 25-0, another program record.
The first set of the game started with Wayland taking a strong lead, and eventually winning the first set with a close score of 25-22.
The second set Oliver Ames started extremely strong, but Wayland came back and won the set 25-22 to put the tigers down 2-0, meaning they would have to pull off something extraordinary and win three straight sets.
The third set, Oliver Ames pulled ahead early and maintained a lead. Lyla McDonough gave the team momentum with a setter dump followed by an ace to win the set for the Tigers 25-16.
In the fourth set, the Tigers couldn’t be stopped. Chelsea Wagner and Angie Romero had multiple key plays to put Oliver Ames back in the game and win the set 25-14.
During the fifth and final set, to decide who wins a state championship, the Tigers banded together and used their momentum from winning two straight, to defeat Wayland 15-12.
