After a pretty successful Fall season with winning hocks in the game day division, OA cheer is approaching their Winter season. This season, the team will be cheering for both boys and girls basketball and competing in 2 competitions.
Lauren Daigle, Madisen Dykeman and Kylie Benjamin are this season’s captains. They are putting their best foot forward to make this season as seamless as possible and create an environment with hard work and dedication.
Daigle, a senior, says “I definitely want to give it my all because it’s my last season as a cheerleader, and I really hope that this season, as a team, we can improve a lot.”
The team is already working toward lots of new skills as well as dedicating all their time to get the best quality of practice they can.
Dykeman, also a senior, says “I like being able to have the ability to give the girls new opportunities. We are planning to go to tumbling classes so we can improve individually and as a whole. I’m excited to give my input and help our team succeed.”
Head coach Kayleigh Burke enters her third year coaching within the program and says the team is looking extremely strong and full of potential.
“This is one of the biggest and most competitive seasons we’ve had for basketball cheer, and our goals reflect that,” Burke says. “We want to keep building the program by pushing our skills, adding more difficulty, and maintaining consistent, productive practices. Strengthening teamwork, elevating our performance quality, and setting a strong foundation for future seasons are all at the top of our list.”
Burke also notes that the team is gearing up for lots of important events this season.
“We’re gearing up for the Hockomock League Competition in Sharon, which is always a big moment for our team. From there, we’ll be heading to States, where we’re hoping to deliver our best performance of the year. These competitions are major highlights for us, especially as we are cheering on other programs throughout the year. The team is excited and already preparing!”
With the captains strong leadership, organization, and enthusiasm as well as the coaches grit, this season is bound to be the best yet!
