I have been doing play-by-play on sports for the past four years for the sports here at Oliver Ames High School. I have been doing it for the Easton Community Access Television (ECAT) because they have been letting me ever since I started volunteering there. It has always been one of my true passions and things I want to do for my life and career.
Commentating on baseball, basketball, softball, and lacrosse a few times has been a really fun experience because it’s fun to talk about sports with other people. I have met a lot of great people that are always positive and supportive. They tell me I have a bright future if I keep on doing this because they see me growing in every game.
I always try to get better no matter what sport it is. I would say my favorite sport to commentate is baseball or basketball because those always have the most action and they have the most intense games.
I first started getting into commentating sports because it has been my passion for years and I just love talking about sports with family or friends. I could talk about that topic for hours straight. There have been a lot of ups and downs because it is a long process to do the notes and research about the teams and it’s some long nights staying up but it is totally worth it once you actually do the job.
I have been doing this for volunteering and I am not actually getting paid because it’s been one of my true passions for most of my life. It is going to look great on my resume when I am older.
I have been super grateful for the opportunity to comment before I start college and already have that experience under my belt and I can just get started right away within the first couple of weeks. I don’t know many kids that want to do this for a career so it’s really cool to be one of the only two kids that is doing sports in college for their major. I have been very blessed with all of the games and people I have met.
I am going to Dean College in the Fall for Sports Communication because they have a great program. There are some professors there that have experience commentating for the Red Sox and Patriots which is great for me to learn from so I can make connections in my first year. My dream after college is to commentate on the Patriots, Red Sox or Celtics or any other sports team where I can get a job.
Overall my experience in these past four years commentating on different sports has been awesome and I am looking forward to my future and what it has in store for me. I am going to keep on grinding every day and working myself closer to what my goal is for my life.
